“I fairly sizzle with zeal and enthusiasm
doing the things that ought to be done by me.”
Unity co-founder Charles Filmore, on his 94th birthday
In meditation this morning, my mind wandered restless, unable to get to the stillness. Filled with grateful reflections of the past year, of the things that worked and the things that did not. Excitement for the New Year arriving. Laughing at myself for even claiming a pretense of having embraced the silence. Yet, years of practice and commitment to having the mind, emotions, body, and spirit moving in the same direction will maintain a semblance of peace throughout this day.
My New Year Resolution began back in September. Walked down to the river, emptied my pockets of a year’s sins, forgave everyone for everything and wrote out the next chapter of the continuing Happy Life Program Plan.
Since then, The Victorian Lady House is gussied up and on the market , this website is under construction, the letting go of stuff is well underway, and half of the pounds gained during a spring stint of big eating with Jericho at her favorite eateries and her amazing home cooked recipes …well half of those pounds have been shed. I finished some classes and registered for two more that begin with the New Year.
Today I will write the thank you notes for all of the generosity shown to us over the holidays, read the Sunday New York Times, and share an afternoon conversation with my best and dearest childhood friend. There’s a few days left of this year for reflection of all the good that has happened, and of lessons learned. Reflection on this past year also goes well with a total deep clean of the house, and the smell of homemade vegetable soup simmering and I am putting that on the list when I work out the upcoming weeks plans.
I wish for you, who read these words, that 2015 is the year of Resolutions that fill you with Sizzle, Zeal, and Enthusiasm. That you show up to do the things that not only ought to be done by you, but those things that you desire to try, to learn, places you want to travel to, that grand creative goal or adventure that wakes you up in the middle of the night. You may not complete them within the year 2015, but enjoy every step of the way.
