High Above Kayla

There isn’t time,
So brief is life,
For bickerings, apologies,
Heartburnings, callings to account.
There is only time for loving,
And but an instant,
So to speak,
For that.

DSCN1578 (2)Just before dawn, my Daughter and I  made the familiar predawn drive from her home to the Denver International Airport. It’s been an excellent visit with my Broncos loving family.  Goodbyes curbside, and I am off to the TSA before catching a quick flight back to the high desert. Once the plane received a good de-icing the flight was quickly airborne, giving a nod to Kayla below us. In  the next hours 480 flights from Denver would be cancelled. What a joy to spend a few days with my family,  totally miss the approaching storm. AND……

Not even once in Colorado did anyone suspect I remain a Panther’s fan.

  1. Welcome back JoHanna! Your post made me smile.
I was thinking about your ‘situation’ being in opposition territory. Were I a fan of the game, I might have a hard time choosing what team across the board to root for. Having lived in NY, CO, IL, WI, and TX it would be a difficult decision.

Yes, it’s quite amazing to see how people do deal with big snow. I’ve lived in those states where it did become part and parcel of life in winter, yet, I can’t say I currently take it as normal.

    1. Those Bronco Fans are thoroughly enjoying the time before the actual game with such joyful abandon. This high level optimism will no doubt allow for an equally graceful loss and determination for future victory.

  2. Oh, as a resident of Denver and a Broncos fan I am saddened by your rooting interest. The Johanna and JoHanna will be cheering for different sides Sunday. I feel like we need some kind of friendly wager….

      1. Deal! We can also hope for a game with no botched coin flips or deflated footballs. A clean, competitive football game! I’m doing laundry right now so the family can participate in Orange Friday tomorrow. We do love our Broncos here!

  3. So glad you got in and out with little punishment from Kayla! I was reading how Colorado and Western Nebraska’s snow was a lot less dense/wet than ours was(Eastern Nebraska) so the blowing and drifting was much worse out there than here.

  4. Go Pats! There’s no other way for a Maine girl to go…though my dad has always been a Dallas fan, even in their darkest hour, he’s true blue. Happy you had safe travels and enjoyed some time with the family.

  5. I’m originally from Denver. My family still lives in the area. The snowstorms that can hit the high plain seem to be so unexpected because it’s not an every-year thing. Still, most who live there handle the snow episodes well. I bet your extended visit was enjoyable.

BTW, I’m not a Bronco fan either.

    1. My family enjoys the snow immensely and navigates it as a ‘normal’ day. It is beautiful and wonderful to photograph, but I enjoy a ‘light dusting’ of the wintry whiteness and do not do enjoy serious snowfall anymore.

  6. Oh my gosh how amazing that u made your flight – wow – and I know that drive to DIA oh so well! Used to live there – and so I think u know who I am rooting for –
Cough – go Broncos – but it is going to be tough cos your panthers are so good – — and side note – I am very sad the panthers did not have an undefeated season – they really should have and it is time for a the Dolphins to stop celebrating! But if the team is this good right now they might have other tries at an undefeated season-

    1. Colorado is really going all out to support their Broncos. Whether it is lighting up the airport in team colors or dressing the babies in #18 Manning jumpers with matching head bands for the girls….it was pretty amazing to witness.

      May the best team win!

  7. I was missing your posts, so glad you had a wonderful visit with family!! LOL about them not knowing you are a Panthers Fan, YAY!! 🙂 I will admit I DO NOT watch Football, but this time I just may have to. I found out that that the guy Michael Oyler is on the Panthers team! Have you ever seen The Blindside movie? It was his story, Awesome movie! So when I heard that I thought well that is who I am rooting for 😉 And hey I like the South! 🙂

    1. I returned from living in a small coastal village on the Inner Banks to the High Desert of Arizona just last spring. Football loyalties are difficult to change, and in my commitment to maintaining familial peace better kept to ones self in the midst of sit down dinners.

        1. An attempt several years ago to bring some attention to the villages along the Pamlico Sound on the Mainland side. Swanquarter, Belhaven, Washington which sits up the Pamlico River, Aurora. Still nothing better than taking the ferry over to the Outer Banks though!

          1. Ah, now you’re speaking my language. We love the inner coast! We stay in Beaufort or Morehead City on our way out to Ocracoke. Catch the ferry at Cedar Island. Love Sea Level. I could live there. Cape Lookout is a favorite stop on way out. When we leave Ocracoke, we go out through Swan Quarter. We love New Bern as well. Now I’m itching to be there. Come on July!!!! 🙂

  8. Nice place to visit. Even better timing to get out. When I visited Rocky mountain national park a couple years ago, I had my Cleveland browns shirt on. There were a few comments but very good exchanges. Friendly. My wife’s family is from North Carolina. So we have the same rooting interest Sunday.

    1. It was close timing on the departure.

I sport an Oregon Ducks Sweatshirt here in Arizona and I am always surprised at how many Ducks fans there are down here in the desert wanting to converse.

      Thank you for stopping by.
